America’s Navy partners with DreamHack and ESL
America’s Navy has partnered with event organisers DreamHack and ESL, both of which are properties of MTG.
The deal will see the U.S. Navy act as the official festival partner at DreamHack Anaheim and DreamHack Dallas.
At both DreamHack Anaheim and DreamHack Dallas, which will take place on February 21st-23rd and May 22nd-24th respectively, U.S. Navy will host a LAN area where fans can play against Naval officers and veterans.
Brendan McLane, Commander of U.S. Navy Recruiting Command, discussed the partnership in a release: “The Navy is excited to partner with DreamHack and ESL as we enter the esports space. Like the Navy, esports requires a variety of skills and roles, and a strong commitment to continual improvement. Our partnership will help align the U.S. Navy’s passion for competition with esports fans both onsite at DreamHack North American events and through unique online content on ESL channels.”
DreamHack will integrate the U.S. Navy into its broadcasts, including DreamHack Open, and create branded content focusing on the Armed Forces branch’s activations at its events to be distributed across both DreamHack and ESL channels.
Marcus Lindmark, Co-CEO of DreamHack, also commented on the deal: “We are honored to have this partnership with the U.S. Navy. We know gaming is a hobby for many who serve their country, so to unite our festivals in Anaheim and Dallas with this respected military branch is particularly meaningful to us. The Navy will bring some really unique activations to our fans in the U.S. and we are looking forward to offering this experience to our attendees.”
Esports Insider says: More and more recently, we’re seeing the U.S. Armed Forces make a big play in esports. With Call of Duty League, Complexity Gaming, Cloud9, and now DreamHack and ESL – among others in the esports space – now working with the likes of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marines, it’s likely that this trend won’t be stopping any time soon.
